Champions League: Analysis, Predictions, Betting Odds & Offers

Champions League

The Champions League moves onto week number four as the teams involved begin to close in on qualifying for the next round, moving into the Europa League or going home after an early exit. Many of this week’s games have huge implications on the group standings so we are sure to see some very good football matches spread across the week. All five English teams will fancy their chances for different reasons, and for the neutrals, three of those English teams should be involved in great games, with Tottenham vs Real Madrid the tie of the week.

The game between Tottenham and Real Madrid will no doubt grab all the headlines and rightly so, it should be a fantastic game. They played out an entertaining 1-1 draw recently, and this game has huge implications, as the winner of the game being made favourite to win the group. Playing at Wembley in front of a packed stadium is the right setting for this game, and it should be fantastic to watch.

Elsewhere, Liverpool and Manchester United look to have straightforward home tasks, while Chelsea and Manchester City head to Italy to face difficult away games. Manchester City can clinch qualification with a win against Napoli, with two games to spare.

On Tuesday night the best of the rest looks to be in Portugal where Juventus travel to face Sporting Lisbon. A win for Juventus will all but clinch their place in the next round, while if Sporting win they will draw level with Juventus on points. The big guns Bayern Munich, Barcelona and PSG are also on show on Tuesday, and should all record comfortable wins.

On Wednesday Porto host Leipzig in what looks to be a very important game in their group. As it stands now, just three-point separate Porto, Leipzig and Monaco, with just one of those three looking likely to make the next round due to the great start made by Besiktas. The winner of this game would give themselves the upper hand going into the final two games. Big guns Borussia Dortmund are also in action on Wednesday, at home to Apoel Nicosia.

What Games are on TV?

As is the case with every round of the Champions League, every game across Tuesday and Wednesday is available to watch via BT Sport. The listings for the English teams can be found below.

Manchester United vs Benfica – Tuesday 19:45, BT Sport 3

Benfica travel to Manchester to face a United team who know how to play in Europe. This is going to be a huge test for them, and they will probably come with a solid defensive formation in the hope of taking a draw. Manchester United will have to find a way past them, and they should although it will be a good test for Mourinho’s men.

Roma vs Chelsea – Tuesday 19:45, BT Sport 2

Chelsea travel to Italy to face Roma again after the pair fought out a wild game at Stamford Bridge recently. That game ended 3-3 and fans will be hoping to see the same excitement once again when they meet on Tuesday night. A win for Chelsea would give them a five-point cushion at the top of the table with just two games to go.

Liverpool vs Maribor – Wednesday 19:45, BT Sport Showcase

Liverpool have what looks to be a straightforward game against Maribor, a team they put seven past when they travelled to Slovenia. This looks to be a tall order for the visitors, who will go to Anfield and employ damage limitation tactics against far superior opposition. Expect to see Liverpool try and score plenty though, in a tight group goal difference could come into play.

Napoli vs Manchester City – Wednesday 19:45, BT Sport 3

Manchester City travel to Italy knowing if they can beat Napoli they will have secured qualification to the next round with two games to spare. They would be nine points clear of Napoli with two games

to go, and would also maintain their gap to second place Shakhtar of at least three points, depending on their result.

Tottenham vs Real Madrid – Wednesday 19:45, BT Sport 2

The clash of the week takes place at Wembley, and this should be another close game after the pair played out a 1-1 draw in Madrid. These two have the group at their mercy, with a six-point game to the other two teams, and whoever wins this game will instantly go favourites to win the group, such as the importance of this game.

Betting Odds

All odds are the best odds available at the time of writing.

If you think Tottenham can put in a performance good enough to beat Real Madrid on Wednesday night then they can be backed at 12/5 to beat the Spaniards. They are the biggest price of any of the British clubs this week and look to have the toughest task. If you think this is going to be a bridge too far and you want to back Real Madrid to win the game, they can be backed at 23/20.

Elsewhere, Chelsea and Manchester City both travel to Italy, with Chelsea playing Roma on Tuesday and City paying Napoli on Wednesday. These two also have tough tasks ahead of them, but if you think they can win their games then Chelsea can be backed at 7/4, while Manchester City are slightly shorter at 6/4.

The two British clubs with the easiest tasks this week appear to be Liverpool and Manchester United. After their demolition of Maribor recently, Liverpool are 1/20 to beat them again at Anfield, and this looks set to be a very tough night for the team from Slovenia. Manchester United are also odds on favourites to win their tie, they are 2/5 to beat Benfica on Tuesday night, and anything other than a home victory would be a huge surprise in either of these two games.

Looking at the rest of the games this week and there are a lot of odd on chances that many people will no doubt be putting into an accumulator. With PSG (1/12), Atletico Madrid (1/8), Barcelona (1/4), Bayern Munich (2/5) and Borussia Dortmund (1/10) all available alongside the two English favourites, accumulator betting is sure to be popular this week.
